messing up and rest 12/17/05

I looked at the log and I went to the gym six straight days. I think I should have a rest day. Conveniently, I have to close tonight (4-11:30pm) and have to open tomorrow (8am-4pm), so I won't make myself crazy over and just make it a rest day. Everyday I look at the pool and hope I have time to swim, but I haven't for a while. As soon as this project, that I have been pending since February (!) is over, I probably feel that I can swim. After not exercising for so long, I have been feeling like I am messing things up. Some days, I feel I am pretty flexible, but then I feel stiff again. Looks like I am getting this free consultation about stretching. I just made an appointment Monday at noon. Let's see how it goes. I will report it here.

pile of magazines! 12/16/05

I was afraid of this and it is really happening. My new cardio machine always asks me to hold on to the bar to take the heart rate and I have to keep fairly good attention to what the screen says, it is not the easiest thing to read a magazine. Sometimes I don't even bother reading anything because either I want to do some thinking or I am just happy listening to the tunes (kind of young for me, but that is OK) and watch the music video to go with it. I just finished one Time magazine yesterday, but I have a pile of magazines to get through! And I know they only keep coming. I have three copies of Time magazine and two each of Shape en español and Experience (the one the gym puts out). Would I ever catch up in this winter break?

purple mat 12/15/05

This morning, I did a very satisfying routine of chest/shoulders/tricep using free weights. No ab today, so I decided to take my time stretching. Instead of using regular green puffy mat, there was a purple yoga mat sitting on the floor by free motion machines, so I decided to use it. Got my socks off and tried regular stretch routines I do from yoga and also got into a couple of poses that require yoga mat. I realize how much I miss yoga, especially Will's class. I am planning another possible trip back to the desert and realized that if I am in Albuquerque Monday night, he might be teaching in San Mateo. He wasn't, but he does in Juan Tabo at 7pm! I would LOVE to go to his class!!!!!!!!

this is how vacation is supposed to be 12/13/05

Sunday turned out to be another day with obsession with cooking (I am sure you will hear some later.) and never got to the gym. On Monday, I worked 9-5 at Sears. If this was a routine, I would get up early and go to the gym before going to work, I guess, but I couldn't get up in the morning. Instead I went to the post office to pick up my Christmas presents from my sister-in-law. I was pretty tired by the end of the day, but I managed to hit the gym. It has been so long and I decided to take it easy (or I wanted to make it home in order to catch the very first episode of new novela?) and just did cardio and abs. I made it this morning, too, and did legs and swam for 30 minutes. Mornings are so much quieter and there is hardly anybody at the pool. I like it. For the next month or so, I hope this is going to be the routine.
