morning walk and sweating 6/10/06

Closing everyday poses a little challenge with exercise of the dog, not myself. The temperature is already climbing three digits here in Texas and you really have to walk in the morning or in the evening, but before getting dark. It means I can't walk in the evening because by the time I get home, it is close to 10pm. Getting up early enough to walk the dog also poses challenge because I don't get to sleep until maybe 11pm. Taking a nap has been a good strategy, but it didn't work yesterday. I ended up doing things and went to work straight and yawning while folding. I woke up several times and the dog was bugging me telling me she is ready for the walk. I kept saying five more minutes and before I know it, it was 8am. It is almost too warm to walk 1 mile. I am already sweating. Normally I would go to the gym straight, but I want to call the vet to see if they can take Pepper for the annual shot and earthworm testing today. Depending on that, I will decide what time I go to the gym. I am closing tonight again. Grrr.

good to be in the gym 6/9/06

The weather forecast is showing that for the whole week, the high temperature is going to be in 100's. Since I am closing most of the time, the only way to get the walk done for the dog is to beat the heat in the morning. It was rather rough this morning getting up and making myself go to the gym. I closed last night and finished up with the last hour of the driving course, then took the test. Then I was waken by the neighbors who were having fun at the pool at 2am. Had a little talk, then of course, took a while to go back to sleep. But I went back to the gym! I could hardly remember what routine I should be doing. I did ab and legs today. I feel pretty dirty, but I will feel much better after the shower, I am sure. Maybe a little nap in the afternoon before I get to work?

away from the gym 6/8/06

My visit to Houston is still fresh in my mind and I still feel like I have a catch-up to do after the trip. What I hope to complete is the driving course which I need for dismissal for my speeding ticket from the spring break. It is for 6-hours and I am thinking about doing it on DVD. Yesterday I convinced myself, I walked the dog in the morning and worked four hours and that will give me enough cardio. In fact, I did 15,000 steps, so treadmill plus a little worth of calories were burnt. But I have been away from the gym, namely from weight training for a while. Muscles should have had enough rest by now. I should start again tomorrow.

Japanese teacher meeting in Houston 6/5/06

OK, my pedometer is showing a little over 1,500 steps today. Grrr. I am in Houston, Rice university to be exact for Japanese teachers association meeting. Yesterday I drove from Dallas and spend a couple of hours at the beach in Galveston. I did a lot of eating, not a lot of walking. Today is even worse sitting in the workshop all day. There was a talk about doing yoga, but would I get to do it? I am trying to decide if I go to NASA tomorrow or not. Maybe I will go to the boardwalk area and try to avoid the rush hour in Dallas, but will get home enough before dark. If I do sightseeing, I guess I will get more walking.
