We survived the AP exam Reading! The schedule was very tight and I was busy calculating calories and making people impressed with recent weight loss. I will point out some findings during my stay in Kansas City.
1) Liver function
The afternoon I arrived at Kansas City, I found an email from Dr. Ho telling me to make another appointment in a month and I have to stop alcohol consumption and stop taking all supplements. In the lab result somewhere, she found decreased liver function. I am following her advice because of my recent intolerance to alcohol. Last September, when I had margarita in empty stomach after being dehydrated (we suspect), I passed out about two minutes in a restaurant. Ever since then, I need to be careful not to drink in empty stomach, only drink one a night and drink water when I feel it is “coming”.
2) Sensitivity to caffeine
I basically avoid coffee, but to stay awake during grading, I had diet coke on the first couple of days. (At home, I sometimes drink diet sprite.) I tend to have not-good sleep days in a new place, but I knew what is keeping me awake was caffeine. This is not new, but seems I am much more sensitive.
3) Sensitive to air conditioning
I brought a shawl, but that was not enough. I went shopping mid-week and get a jacket. Throughout the week, I was a lot colder than I remember from last year.
4) Food findings
I was cautioned holding up a lunch line by measuring salad ingredients, so I basically started to take just lettuce mix for lunch. For breakfast, I had either fat-free yogurt or fat-free cottage cheese from Consentino, the neighborhood grocery store, with fresh berries or fruits. I bought All Bran, but I didn’t use very much. For dinner, I ate out or took out when I knew the numbers. Robert, café worker at the hotel, let me use the store microwave a couple of times. I had Kashi fronzen food for the first time and some Lean Cuisine. Since I am not taking Met-Rx, it is now more difficult to fill protein. One day I looked for good protein bars, but I found out if I only needed protein and do not have numbers for fat and carbohydrate, beef jerky was the answer. I plan to look in local Tom Thomb today. Jason’s deli has detailed nutrition information online and all Real Choices menu items look pretty compatible. I would look into that.
I ran an hour everyday on treadmill in the morning and met exercise calories all days with pedometer counts walking around the convention center and hotel. My weight didn’t go up; I need to really see tomorrow morning’s reading on regular scale, but I think at least I should have maintained. I have a few days to get serious with exercise and Tony and I are off to vacation next week! Northern California, but no champagne! I also made an appointment with Jeff for 27th Saturday and asked for food and exercise and calorie numbers to maintain the weight. My goal was 145 and yesterday gym scale read 136.
