Modified summer riding plans 7/1/10

I had a great time with Tour d'Italia! Here are links to videos Tony took. Lady, my dog, is featured as well. (Video in m4v). This was shot and edited with Flip Cam that Hakone sensei did a presentation at the AP reading.

My goal remains to complete 150 miles in 2-days at Lone Star Ride in September 25-26. Now that fellow teachers from AP reading donated enough for me to participate in Tour de Cure for 60 mile-ride on July 24th, I am trying to make sure I get enough training for the 150 miles.

Here is my plan. I found some local rides that have decent mileage all three weekends in August to prepare for the big September ride. On August 7th, instead of Plano Fun Ride, I am going to ask Tony if he can accompany me in Melon Patch ride in De Leon, Texas. This is supposed to be a preparation ride for Hotter than Hell, so they have 71 mile option. I would really like to try this ride because I don't see any other rides with this kind of distance. It will be the same as one day portion of Lone Star ride. Then on August 14th, there is Hot Rock ride in Rockwall. I have never been to Rockwall, but my friend Kevin's wife, Laura commutes there and it is only 30 miles from Plano. Even if Tony can't come with me, I will just participate alone. This is close than Sherman, where I previously hoped to ride in Red River Bike Rally. Then on August 21st, Saturday before the school starts, there seems to be a local ride in Dallas called Red Hot Chili Pepper. I would like to try for 60 miles. After Lone Star, I will do Wish 100 on October 9th. Then maybe I will train half marathon at White Rock marathon.

"Le Tour de France" in full swing! 6/30/01

My vacation in NM has ended and now I am ready for serious cycling training. With it comes the start of Le Tour! I have signed up with Virtual Le Tour with MapMyRide . I will log what I ride during the tour and pretend I am riding in Le Tour! There are some special events to celebrate hosted by Lifetime Cycling clubs. On Saturday, the 3rd, when the tour starts, Plano club is having a short time trial. On Monday, the 5th, Flower Mound club is doing 90 minute Tempo ride. I have never tried either form of riding/training, so I am quite looking forward to it! I wrote to Greg to change cardio program to accommodate these two rides.
