handy juicer 1/27/06

The weather has gotten back to normal and the high temperature for the last couple of days are in 50's instead of 70's. I started a little sore throat last night and I took Airborne. Before going to school, I admitted something more serious and took Advil Cold and Sinus. Later I went shopping and I acted like a sick person and bought three cans of chicken noodle soup and a carton of 100% OJ and my new fascination, grapefruits. There was a big section and they were selling a bag, 6 of them inside for two dollars! I am an extremely messy person, so I have been thinking for ways to eat grapefruit neatly. I actually thought about writing to FoodTV. This morning, I was talking to Taguchi sensei about juice extractor. I saw B&D's handy juicer at Wal-Mart and bought it for a little over $1. I figured one grapefruit yields about 8 oz of juice. Three of them will make a big plastic glass I use. It is a little work, but I know it is fresh and it is absolutely delicious. I feel like I am going to the closest grocery store where they had 10 pound bag for about $3. Wow.

nutrition 1/26/06

Lifetime Fitness is a bargain overall, at least from the way I use it. I saw a sign-up sheet for nutrition consultation that is offered free the other day. My frustration has been that I am doing enough exercise, I feel, but my scale reading hasn't changed. Therefore my BMI shows that I am obese and I don't quite feel like it. I plan to go to health fair on Saturday and get some hard data about cholesterol and other facts. I was just thinking of possibly an appointment with a knowledgeable trainer, who could show me not how to exercise, but listen to what I do and what I eat and give me some insights. Not eating official dinner is my thing, but I eat big pile of non-fat, no-taste yogurt with dried cranberries with peanuts (no salt). I also eat dietary snack at night. I eat a lot of fruits and I know that contains sugar. I can pretty much give typical meal and if the nutritionist is good, maybe they can give me some estimate calories. I would like to hear what they think about what I eat.

sealed the deal 1/24/06

According to my calculation, today was the 16th visit of the month. I checked the other day one more time and the lady at the front desk said the front desk can only see how many times I had checked in. Actually they (I guess, Eddie) will have to print out the actual record so that I don't just check in multiple times a day. Although I think I have to skip workout on Thursday (first Japan Club meeting), I think I can say I already sealed the deal. YEY.

super-packed gym 1/23/06

Today I got out of school a little after 5pm and the drive to the gym didn't bother me much. I sang and I got there. I like taking Midway north till Trinity Mills because the distance between the intersection from Midway to the gym (very close to Marsh) seems, on Trinity Mills, for some reason, a lot closer than other streets, especially Northwest highways. So I guess it was around 6pm by the time I got to the gym. The parking spot was absolutely full and I had to park in the space that is facing Trinity Mills! Of course, inside was packed, too! I thought I would not get my favorite cardio machine today. Eddie, a membership advisor, was scrambling around crazy and I never got a chance to say hi. There is fitness boot camp going on and they take up a lot of machines, too. It is almost frustrating now. But this shouldn't last too long. People will start dropping in a couple of weeks. After all, they usually have a 'program' that lasts only so many weeks, right? Once that is done, they won't come to the gym too often, right?

health fair 1/22/06

Because my favorite TV station became Fox News in Dallas, I didn't know until today, but there is Health Fair like in Albuquerque hosted by NBC here in Dallas. According to the information, it is the same timing, the last weekend of January and it is at Dallas convention center. It is shorter, just Saturday and Sunday and it starts later (which confirms of my belief that Dallas is a late-wake-up city). I am surprised it is for free and it seems they offer even more! It is a little distance, but I can park at the train station by the university and use my free DART pass. Looks like I can spend quite a lot of time. I am planning to do this on Saturday. I am sure I will report here.
