mango smoothie II 2/2/05

I finally got ingredients and put together mango smoothie from Kitchen Accomplished (see 1/21 entry). I used frozen mango instead of fresh, but that didn't have enough liquid. So I added maybe half a cup of soy milk. The taste? As anti-vegi guy said in the show, it wasn't bad. When I used to make smoothie, I used frozen orange drink concentrate and it has a LOT of sugar. I was concerned about that. I don't need to use that anymore, so I chucked two cans. I think almonds really give subtle flavor. It is easy and I usually have most ingredients. I will be making more often!

cosmic experience 2/1/05

Yesterday I finally made it to Will's class in San Mateo gym. I have to find out why his class is so good. Maybe because he does a lot of back warm-up? Maybe the music? I remembered that after his class, passing through busy gym, driving and listening to radio all feel so foreign. I felt like I went somewhere out there in the universe and had a hard time coming back on earth. In his class, I can always go further down in forward bend, further in backbend. Camel felt great. And I was able to do full plow. It is getting a little difficult practicing yoga at home again, because the ball trick with the dog is not working too well these days. I should probably make a point and go to tomorrow night's class, too.

good shoes 1/31/05

I am very cheap, but I am starting to realize some things are good to invest on. Sports bra is one thing (see 1/12 entry). Yesterday I worked at Sears, but figured it is only four hours and wore another pair of black boots. Yes, the ones that I wore 8 hours for Sears and later banquet and got unbelievable pain (see 12/14/05 entry). Bad idea. Even only four hours, yesterday was one of those days that I found women's underwear everywhere in Men's department. In just four hours, I easily achieved over 10,000 steps. And I felt my feet! So people out there, who are serious about getting fit by walking, you should expect a little expense and get a good pair of walking shoes. Especially if you are walking on the hard surface, like early morning mall walk, or probably just walking on the street, too.

truth 1/30/05

After my complaints about fat content % not changing on 1/28, I thought about it a lot. When I started exercising in July 2003, I started out with yoga and swimming. By November, I was 20 pounds lighter. I didn't know weight lifting, so I am assuming that 20 pounds was mainly fat loss, although I was building my muscles with yoga and swimming alone. Since then, my weight has not changed. My fat weight and percentage haven't changed. This all makes sense. My fat is not going down! I started weight lifting shortly before Christmas of 2003 and people notice that I am getting smaller. However since my weight hasn't changed, my BMI is still in obese range although I am fitting in some size Medium clothes. The truth, I think, is that my muscles are toned, but the thick layer of fat to cover hasn't changed. If my size is getting smaller, that is because of the muscle change. This is very discouraging, but I've probably had this fat since high school. What I have had for 30 years is not going to go away in a year or two. Grrr.
