Thankful 11/23/06

What a beautiful day in Texas. I must have endured the long summer for this. It is warm and lots of sunshine. I am only wearing a T-shirt and jeans and it is almost too hot to stay outside to read. A little wind, but nothing severe like it often gets in Texas. Today I baked sweet potatoes (coated with olive oil, sugar and brown sugar, topped with honey), simple green beans, heated up store-bought stuffing and shared a big turkey leg with Pepper. After I set the table with this feast with the dog out on the patio, I said all the things that I am thankful for. The first one is that I am in good health, have a good companion of Pepper, have a job, all the families healthy and I am receiving new additions and so forth. I tend to count what I am not, what I don't have and feel unfulfilled about it, but today after saying things outloud, I was quite happy about who I am, where I am. I finished up rather untraditionally with Indian sweets that Raj gave me called Soan Papdi (different brand, but right stuff). I thanked him for entering my life as well.

what a treat! 11/22/06

Although tomorrow is Thanksgiving day, the school is off from today. Therefore I get to sleep in! Finally! I have been waiting for today for about a month. The dog begged me to go for a walk and I dragged myself out of bed. Then I went back and set myself a time of 8:45 to go to the gym. I actually fell asleep, but managed to drag myself out of bed. I did cardio with cardio setting (target heart rate is 144) and did chest/shoulders/tricep with ab. It took me probably one and half hours or so including stretch. I FEEL GREAT. I complain severely about Texas, but why should I today with this beautiful weather and it is late November! Who gets to have this sunshine? I am going to have to try to catch up with a lot of things, but I am going to spread it out, little by little.

I can't believe... 11/21/06

I finally made it to the gym yesterday. I went home early and picked up the dog, then told myself I HAVE to go at 4pm. Maybe giving myself a time deadline was a good idea. I did cardio for 30 minutes and it was quite rough, I decided I would just give myself a break on the first day back on track and just do well-needed stretch and go home. I checked the log and the last visit to the gym was 11/1! 20 days of NO GYM! This is not acceptable. I have a student coming to take make-up quiz at 5 and this means by the time I get to the gym, it will be quite crowded, but I need to go. From tomorrow, I have no classes until the next week, so I intend to go everyday. Then I have four more teaching days and then another week will be final exam week. Then my paid work out will start. Hopefully I get back in shape somehow. Grrr.
