injury update 5/30/07

I sent an email message similar to yesterday's entry to Trafton, who said, "Don't even think about exercising the next two days." But I found a reference on about.com saying there is nothing wrong with working on upper body. So I just did that today. In case you are wondering how bad it really is, it feels a little tight, slightly swollen with discoloration. If you care, Click here to see the photo as of this morning.

treadmill mishap 5/29/07

I have been going to the gym for close to four years, but have been fairly injury-free. Today I was finishing up 35 minute walk and run on the treadmill and I wanted to pick up the towel that fell and moved the back of the treadmill. This was when I changed the pace from 5 miles per hour to 3 miles, so I thought I could get on it just fine. Instead I tripped on it and hit my left leg pretty hard. A little lower than knee. When I looked in a couple of minutes, it was so blue and so swollen that I have never seen anything like that on myself. Nevertheless, I did everything for Day B (chest and leg) including steam bath! It actually hurts without touching, so I activated ice machine and applying ice. Some websearch told me that I have to apply ice 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Also taking ibuprofen pills doesn't sound like a good idea. Tomorrow being Day C, cardio and ab, I was hoping to run for 45 minutes. I hope I don't end up resting tomorrow because of this. That's OK, right???

175! 5/27/07

I bought an exercise journal and started the week 1 Monday. So today is the end of Week 1 and I set the goal to be 175 pounds. This was simply a calculation of the starting weigh of 180, the goal weight of 145, 35 pounds divided into 8 weeks of program and figured I have to drop 5 pounds each week to reach the goal. Personally I don't believe I can reach, but I have never exercises this hard in my life. Today the ad got done early and got out of work at 9am. I went straight to the gym and spent my Day B, cardio and ab day. I noticed myself doing better on treadmill and told myself that I am going to walk&run for 30 minutes, reaching for 2 miles. Then I did it! I weighed myself before and after the steam bath and I saw 175! Since then I took a nap and ate, so it is probably more, but I am sticking with it for the record. I feel each day has gotten a little easier and dress code clothes fit a little looser. Maybe I will do Day F, the third set of cardio&ab this week?!?
