SF bike trip on June 22nd 7/1/09

I am embarrassed to admit I haven’t done photos from the vacation yet.  However the bike trip was on the first day and I have the photo, so I will start with that today!

Tony and I walked to Blazing Saddles in Fisherman’s Wharf and got a bike.  Our original plan was to go to Golden Gate Park.  They had a map and gave us directions, but they were talking more about having free ferry tickets for us.  We missed the turn we were told (actually to catch Lincoln.  Different from what is available online).  We decided to cross Golden Gate Bridge!  Here is the route.

I was doing great climbing up the hills and everything, but I forgot minor details: I have fear of heights.  Golden Gate Bridge was big and high enough, I was scared even driven in a car.  So I told Tony that we do not need to turn around, but I need to get this through as quickly as possible.  I stayed on farthest from the edge and peddled as quickly as I could.  And I made it!

Soon after we crossed, Tony found out his bike had a flat tire.  So we had no choice, but to move on to Sausalito and take the ferry back.  8 miles ride took a little shorter than two hours.  It wasn’t planned, but I felt a major accomplishment crossing that famous Golden Gate Bridge on bike!  We had lunch in Sausalito and came back to Fisherman’s Wharf.  What fun!
